Jets TE Zach Sudfeld Reverts To Injured Reserve After Clearing Waivers

Update:

Rich Cimini reports that Jets TE Zach Sudfeld cleared waivers on Wednesday and has been reverted to the team’s injured reserve list.

The New York Jets announced Monday that they’ve placed TE Zach Sudfeld on waivers and signed TE Steve Maneri to a contract.

The Jets were one of the teams to place a waiver claim on TE Tim Wright a few days ago, so they have clearly been looking for a tight end to replace Sudfeld, who suffered a torn ACL during minicamp last week.

Sudfeld, 26, has one year remaining on his three-year, $1.485 million contract and would have made a base salary of $585,000 for the 2015 before becoming a restricted free agent next year.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Sudfeld will free up $585,000 in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2014, Sudfeld appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and caught five passes for 85 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Maneri, 26, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent back in 2010, but he was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster and was later claimed by the Patriots. However, his time in New England was short lived as he was waived after one month with the team.
